THE CLIFFTOP CHALLENGE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 4TH NOVEMBER 2023
The Race VIllage is at Le Bons Bay Domain, Le Bons Bay Road.
Kayak Start Line is at the NORTH of the beach. Kayaks are to be lined up on the SOUTH end of the beach. Follow the marshals instructions at all times.
Competitors will start at the NORTH end and run approximately 300m to their kayaks. Support crews are able to assist their paddler into their kayak.
Transition zone is at Le Bons Bay Domain (see map below). Support crews need to be in the transition zone by 8:30am.
This is the end of the paddle section and start of the mountain bike section for all Multisport competitors.
Once competitors have located their bike, they must run (or walk) their bike out of the Transition Area. No one is to ride their bike out of the Transition Area. Marshals will be in place to direct competitors at this point and all information will be in the Race Briefing before the start of the race.
Support crews need to remove the kayak off the beach only after every kayaker has finished the kayak section.
All Transition Zones are at Le Bons Bay Domain. Support crews can base themselves at the domain all day.
We will have a technician on-site to assist with basic repairs and issues on the day.
The transition map may change. An up-to-date map will be sent to all competitors the week of the race.

This is the end of the bike section for all Multisport and Duathlon competitors.
Once the competitor is off their bike and into their run, support crews are to remove the bike from the transition zone.

Water Safety is provided by experienced personnel, with support kayakers in the water as well as Surf Lifesaving NZ crews out on the water in IRB's. Part of your entry goes towards this awesome organisation.
MUTLISPORT SHORT: 18 years +
MULTISPORT LONG: 18 years +
Due to the challenging nature of this event we have a strict age limit on the Multisport event. Younger ages may be permitted on a case by case basis. Please email the Race Director to discuss. kerry@scenicsports.net
Kayak must be sea-worthy, safe, and within your ability to use.
Surf Ski's or Sea Kayaks are the recommended kayak for this race.
If you wish to use a Multisport Kayak a minimum of Grade 2 is required.
All competitors must email us a signed copy of their Grade 2 certificate when they enter the race. Please email support@scenicsports.net with your certificate attached, including your name and date of certification.
TANDEM kayaks are permitted in the Tandem Category. Both competitors will need a Grade 2 certificate.
Ocean kayaking is very different to river kayaking. If you are unsure of your ability please contact kerry@scenicsports.net to discuss.
NO RECREATIONAL SIT-ON TOP kayaks permitted.
All competitors MUST wear a standards-approved buoyancy vest, have a signalling device, whistle, and wear appropriate clothing for the conditions.
Mountain Bikes must be in safe and serviceable condition.
All riders must wear a safety standards approved bike helmet and carry 2 spare tubes, pump or CO2 shot, bicycle multi-tool, and chain lube.
No E-Bikes.
The Mountain Bike course has a very steep incline between 5km and 8km into the course. One section has a gradient of 45 degrees. The last part of the descent will require care due to the drop-off at the side of the road.
The course is a mixture of sealed and unsealed road.
The Trail Run is a mixture of sand, gravel road, and farmland.
Trail shoes are highly recommended.
Hydration packs are permitted to be carried throughout the run, although there are aid stations on course.
Sections of the Trail Run are challenging with steep inclines and descents. If you are afraid of heights this course will not be suitable.

- thermal long sleeved top
You are welcome to wear a hydration pack and carry your own nutrition and hydration requirements.
The Clifftop Challenge Trail Run is fully supported, however due to its location and terrain there are compulsory gear requirements.

- thermal long sleeved top
- thermal or woolen beanie and gloves
RECOMMENDED GEAR:
- trail shoes with good grip
You are welcome to wear a hydration pack and carry your own nutrition and hydration requirements. Poles are allowed.
